Grand Challenges 2018

A Street Cat Named Bob

Words with Wanderers

This group identified that alongside ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ having the second highest rate of rough sleeping outside London (correct to 2017), homeless are twice as likely to have a mental health issue when compared to the likelihood in the general population. According to research identified by the team, reading for just 6 minutes a day can reduce stress levels up to 68%.

They aimed to improve the mental well-being among the homeless via reading groups involving both ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ University students and local homeless individuals. This session would run weekly, where books would be read aloud or a group would listen to an audio book, with books being accessible and mood-boosting in nature. They created a poster to be displayed at the Showcase, alongside a project proposal.

There was a group presentation on the Friday of Grand Challenges week.
